A Brand of Keyura
A chandrika for a fifteen inch deity is a different object from the small crescents made for home mandir idols. At this size it becomes the piece that frames the whole face, and the proportions have to be right to within a few millimetres or the shringar looks subtly wrong in a way nobody can quite explain. This is a golden Radhika chandrika cut for fifteen inch deities.
The crescent is formed as a single continuous arc with the tips drawn fine and the centre carrying the weight of the work. That shaping is what makes a chandrika read as a moon rather than as a curved bar. Golden finish rather than stone-set is a deliberate choice at this size: a dense stone field on a crescent this wide competes with the mukut sitting directly above it, and the two end up fighting each other during darshan instead of reading as one shringar.
The face carries worked detail rather than being left plain, so there is something for lamp light to catch along the length of the arc. It fastens behind the head and is shaped to follow the curve of the hairline rather than sitting proud of it.
Fifteen inch refers to the height of your deity, measured from the base to the top of the head, not the width of the chandrika. This range suits the larger Radha Rani and Radhika swaroops kept in bigger home mandirs and small temples. On idols much below fifteen inches the arc will extend past the hairline on both sides and no adjustment fixes that.
The chandrika goes on before the mukut, never after. Fasten it, set it level against the hairline, and then place the crown over it. Done in the other order the crescent is pushed out of position every time and gradually loosens at the fastening.
Store the chandrika flat, never balanced on its tips, which slowly opens the arc until it no longer follows the hairline. Dry cotton cloth only. Keep attar, loose kumkum and damp away from the finish, and never use polish liquid, which collects in the worked detail and dries white.
It pairs with the golden choker and payal in the same Shubbushrii range for a complete golden-tone shringar.
