A Brand of Keyura
The lotus is the one motif in Vaishnav shringar that never needs explaining. It appears in the feet, the hands, the eyes and the seat of the deity, and a lotus-form accessory carries that association without any further decoration. This is an American Diamond white lotus purse for Shriji, two and a half inches in width.
The body is shaped as an open lotus rather than being a rectangular purse with a flower stuck on the front, which is the usual shortcut. The petals are formed individually and layered so the form has genuine depth from the side, and the stone work follows the petal lines outward from the centre instead of covering the face in a flat field. That is the difference between a piece that looks like a lotus and one that merely references it.
White AD is used throughout. Against the coloured poshak that Shriji is usually dressed in, a white stone field reads clean and bright rather than competing, and it photographs without the colour cast that tinted stones pick up under warm mandir lighting.
Most devotees place it in the hand for darshan, though it can also be set beside the deity on the singhasan as part of the arrangement. At two and a half inches it is substantial enough to read clearly from a few feet away without being so large that it dominates the hand. It is a popular gifting piece precisely because very few home mandirs already have one.
The lotus form is built on a rigid frame, which matters because layered petals in thin metal splay apart with handling and never close back properly. Every stone is cup set and hand closed. On a piece with this many edges and angles, glued stones are especially prone to lifting at the petal tips where the surface curves most sharply.
Handle it by the base rather than the petal edges. Store it upright in its pouch so nothing presses the petals flat. Dry cotton cloth only, worked gently between the petals where dust gathers. Never use water or polish liquid, both of which lodge in the petal joins and dry white where it cannot be reached.
Shubbushrii stocks it as part of the Laddu Gopal shringar accessories range.
