A Brand of Keyura
The Shree Nath Ji mukut is one of the most recognisable forms in all of Vaishnav shringar. Broad, flat-fronted and rising straight rather than tapering, it is shaped after the crown of the Nathdwara swaroop, and devotees who have had darshan there know the silhouette instantly. This is a size five mukut in that style, finished in pleated gold.
The pleating is the defining feature. Rather than a smooth or stone-covered face, the crown is worked into fine vertical pleats across its full width, each fold catching light separately. Under a diya the effect is a moving shimmer across the face of the crown rather than fixed points of sparkle, which is much closer to how the Nathdwara mukut actually reads in a temple than any stone-set imitation manages.
Because the form is broad and flat, the build has to be rigid. A pleated face in thin metal dents the moment it is handled, and a dented pleat cannot be pushed back out without showing. This one is made in a gauge heavy enough to hold the pleating through regular dressing, which is the whole reason it is worth buying a Shree Nath Ji mukut properly rather than cheaply.
Families with a Shree Nath Ji swaroop at home are the obvious buyers, but the form works equally well on Laddu Gopal, and many devotees keep one specifically for Annakut and Govardhan Puja when the Nathdwara association is strongest. It also photographs unusually well, because the pleating gives the crown a texture that survives phone cameras far better than small stone work does.
Size five follows standard Braj numbering, the same system used for poshak. Order the number you already buy dresses in. The broad form is less forgiving than a tapered mukut, so a size error shows immediately at the hairline rather than being hidden.
Handle the crown by its edges, never by pressing on the pleated face. Store it upright or on folded cloth and never face down. Clean with a dry soft cloth drawn along the direction of the pleats, not across them, since cross-wiping catches and lifts the fold edges over time. Avoid water and polish liquid entirely, as both collect in the pleat valleys and dry white.
It sits in the Shubbushrii mukut range at a price well below the Nathdwara market.
