A Brand of Keyura
The chandrika is the crescent that sits above Radha Rani's forehead, and in Braj it is never treated as a decorative extra. The crescent moon belongs to the iconography itself, and a shringar done without it always looks slightly unfinished to anyone raised around daily seva. This chandrika is cut for the five to six number range, which is the most common size kept in home mandirs across north India.
The crescent is formed from a single shaped frame rather than assembled from segments, so the curve is continuous and the two tips taper evenly. That sounds like a small thing until you compare it with a jointed crescent, where the seams catch light at different angles and the arc looks broken from the side. The stones are graded along the curve, largest at the centre and finer towards the tips, which is what gives the piece its lift rather than making it read as a flat band of sparkle.
Each stone is seated in its own cup and closed by hand. Surface-glued work looks identical in a photograph and completely different after four months of lamp smoke, when the adhesive yellows around every stone. Cup setting is slower and costs more, and it is the reason this piece still reads clean after a year of daily aarti.
Five to six number refers to the idol size, following the standard numbering used across Vrindavan and Mathura. If you already buy poshak by number for your Ladli Ji, order the same number here. If you are unsure, measure your idol from the base to the top of the head and send us the measurement on WhatsApp before ordering, since a chandrika that is one number too wide will sit past the hairline and look wrong no matter how it is fastened.
The chandrika fastens behind the head and sits best when the mukut is placed after it, not before. Keep it flat in storage rather than resting it on its tips, which slowly opens the curve. Dry cotton cloth only for cleaning, and keep attar and loose kumkum away from the settings.
It pairs directly with the two inch choti set and the Radha Rani chandrika range already on Shubbushrii, so a complete shringar can be built up a piece at a time rather than all at once.
