A raised star-shaped flower sits at the centre of a round silver face, ringed by a border of short yellow enamel blocks set like the teeth of a wheel. The band adjusts.
The enamel is confined entirely to the outer ring, with the centre left in plain worked silver. That arrangement is unusual — colour normally goes in the middle, where the eye lands first — and it changes how the ring is read: the border is registered before the centre, so the piece announces itself as a disc of colour and only then resolves into a flower. It also makes a modestly sized ring look larger, since the eye takes in the full outer diameter.
Almost every colour used on oxidised silver is cool or dark — turquoise, blue, deep green, black. Yellow is neither. It is warmer and lighter than the metal around it, which means it does not sit into the surface the way those colours do but lifts off it, giving a far harder contrast than this collection usually carries.
The border is divided into separate rectangles with silver between them rather than running as one unbroken ring of colour. That division is what keeps it from looking like a painted rim: each block is bounded by metal, which is the structural principle of all enamel work, and the repeated silver dividers give the border a rhythm the eye can count.
Adjustable at the back, so no ring size is needed. Ease it open with both hands and set it once.
Wear it alone. The yellow suits mustard, ochre, cream, white and ivory, and it is one of the few oxidised pieces bright enough to lift an all-neutral outfit.
Festivals, daytime functions, daily wear, travel and parties.
Light and flat, with the enamel flush to the metal so nothing catches.
This is brass given an oxidised, antique-silver finish rather than solid silver. The metal is deliberately darkened and then the raised surfaces are polished back, so the blackening stays in the recesses while the high points stay bright. That contrast is the entire point of oxidised work — it is what makes every engraved line, pierced opening and raised edge read separately instead of dissolving into one shiny surface. It also means the finish is not uniform by design, and small variations between pieces are normal rather than faults.
Put it on after perfume, hand cream and sanitiser, and take it off before washing up, swimming or sleeping. Wipe with a dry soft cloth only, and keep liquid away from the enamel. Do not use silver polish, dip cleaners or toothpaste — they strip the blackening out of the recesses, which is the one kind of damage that cannot be undone on an oxidised piece. Store it dry in a pouch, away from other rings that could scratch it.
