A deep green stone sits in a worked antique silver face, its bezel left bright where the metal around it is blackened. The band adjusts.
Green is the hardest colour to set into oxidised silver. A deep green and a blackened ground are close in tone, so at any distance they tend to merge and the stone stops reading as a stone at all. The fix here is a polished bezel — the rim holding the stone is deliberately left bright, so there is a line of light between the green and the dark metal. That thin bright outline is what keeps the stone separate, and without it this ring would not work.
Given the difficulty, green is used because nothing else sits in quite the same place: it is the one colour that is both traditional in Indian jewellery and genuinely cool, which turquoise is and red and amber are not. On silver it gives a combination that reads as ethnic and restrained at once, where the same stone in gold would read as purely festive.
Adjustable at the back, so no ring size is needed. Ease it open with both hands and set it once.
Wear it alone or with one plain band. Green and blackened silver suits ivory, mustard, maroon and green itself, and handloom or block print particularly well.
Festivals, daytime functions, weddings, daily wear and family gatherings.
Light, with the stone sitting close to the finger.
This is brass given an oxidised, antique-silver finish rather than solid silver. The metal is deliberately darkened and then the raised surfaces are polished back, so the blackening stays in the recesses while the high points stay bright. That contrast is the entire point of oxidised work — it is what makes every engraved line, pierced opening and raised edge read separately instead of dissolving into one shiny surface. It also means the finish is not uniform by design, and small variations between pieces are normal rather than faults.
Put it on after perfume, hand cream and sanitiser, and take it off before washing up, swimming or sleeping. Wipe with a dry soft cloth only. Do not use silver polish, dip cleaners or toothpaste — they strip the blackening out of the recesses, which is the one kind of damage that cannot be undone on an oxidised piece. Store it dry in a pouch, away from other rings that could scratch it.
