A peacock worked in antique silver spreads across the finger, with turquoise stones set into its tail and body. The band is open at the back and adjusts.
Most stones are awkward on oxidised silver. Red fights it, green goes muddy against a cold ground, and clear stones look like they belong on something gold. Turquoise is the exception, and the pairing is old — it runs through Rajasthani, Kutchi, Tibetan and Afghan silverwork alike. The reason is that turquoise is opaque and chalky rather than glassy, so it reads as a material sitting in the metal rather than a jewel stuck onto it. It belongs to the same family of surfaces as blackened silver.
A peacock is all detail — crest, eye, overlapping tail feathers — and detail is precisely what polished metal destroys. Oxidising settles into every cut so the bird stays legible on a face barely two centimetres across. The turquoise then does the one job the metal cannot: it marks the eyes of the tail feathers, which is the only part of a real peacock that is a different colour from the rest.
Adjustable at the back, so no ring size is needed. Ease it open with both hands and set it once.
Wear it alone with the hand otherwise bare. Turquoise and oxidised silver suit white, indigo, teal and ivory, and anything with mirror work. Pair with silver-toned earrings rather than gold.
Festivals, daytime functions, weddings, daily wear and travel.
Light for the size, as the bird is worked sheet rather than solid metal.
This is brass given an oxidised, antique-silver finish rather than solid silver. The metal is deliberately darkened and then the raised surfaces are polished back, so the blackening stays in the recesses while the high points stay bright. That contrast is the entire point of oxidised work — it is what makes every engraved line, pierced opening and raised edge read separately instead of dissolving into one shiny surface. It also means the finish is not uniform by design, and small variations between pieces are normal rather than faults.
Put it on after perfume, hand cream and sanitiser, and take it off before washing up, swimming or sleeping. Wipe with a dry soft cloth only. Do not use silver polish, dip cleaners or toothpaste — they strip the blackening out of the recesses, which is the one kind of damage that cannot be undone on an oxidised piece. Store it dry in a pouch, away from other rings that could scratch it.
