A peacock is worked in relief across a tall oval face, the bird filling the whole panel rather than sitting on it, in oxidised antique silver. The band adjusts.
Most peacock rings cut the bird out as a silhouette. Here it is carved into a solid oval instead, which forces a different solution: the body curves to follow the panel, the tail sweeps up one side to fill the top, and the neck bends down to occupy the bottom. Fitting a figure to a given shape rather than letting it take its own outline is a much older way of working, and it is why temple relief panels look the way they do.
The oval runs lengthways along the finger rather than across it, which is what makes a face this large wearable — the same area set crossways would overhang both neighbouring fingers. It also lengthens the hand rather than widening it, and gives the bird the vertical room its tail needs.
Nothing is pierced through. The whole design is raised and sunk within a solid surface, so the ring is sturdier than a cut-out peacock of the same size and nothing can catch or bend. On an everyday piece that matters more than it sounds.
Adjustable at the back, so no ring size is needed. Sit the oval lengthways along the finger with the bird upright.
Wear it alone with the hand bare. It suits handloom, cotton, block print and silk, and pairs with silver-toned earrings rather than gold.
Festivals, daily wear, daytime functions, travel and family gatherings.
Light, and because the oval runs lengthways it does not crowd the fingers either side. Nothing is pierced, so nothing catches.
This is brass given an oxidised, antique-silver finish rather than solid silver. The metal is deliberately darkened and then the raised surfaces are polished back, so the blackening stays in the recesses while the high points stay bright. That contrast is the entire point of oxidised work — it is what makes every engraved line, pierced opening and raised edge read separately instead of dissolving into one shiny surface. It also means the finish is not uniform by design, and small variations between pieces are normal rather than faults.
Put it on after perfume, hand cream and sanitiser, and take it off before washing up, swimming or sleeping. Wipe with a dry soft cloth only. Do not use silver polish, dip cleaners or toothpaste — they strip the blackening out of the recesses, which is the one kind of damage that cannot be undone on an oxidised piece. Store it dry in a pouch, away from other rings that could scratch it.
