A worked flower sits across the finger with its petals lifted clear of the band rather than lying flat against it, so there is air beneath the bloom. The band adjusts.
Most floral rings are a flat plate shaped like a flower. Raising the petals so they stand clear changes two things at once. It gives the bloom a genuine underside, so shadow collects beneath it and the flower reads as three-dimensional rather than as a silhouette; and it means the shape flexes very slightly as the hand moves, catching light at changing angles instead of holding one fixed highlight. It is more work to make and it is the difference between a flower and a picture of one.
A stone at the centre would pin the eye in one place and the lifted petals would stop mattering. Leaving the flower entirely in metal keeps attention on the form — the layering, the shadows underneath, the way the edges catch — which is the whole reason the piece was made this way.
Adjustable at the back, so no ring size is needed. Ease it open with both hands and set it once. Avoid pressing down on the raised petals, which are the one part of the piece that can be flattened.
Wear it alone on the index or middle finger. With no colour anywhere it goes with everything, and it suits cotton, khadi, linen and handloom particularly well.
Daily wear, festivals, college, travel and daytime functions.
Light, though the raised petals stand proud of the finger, so take it off before anything that involves gripping hard.
This is brass given an oxidised, antique-silver finish rather than solid silver. The metal is deliberately darkened and then the raised surfaces are polished back, so the blackening stays in the recesses while the high points stay bright. That contrast is the entire point of oxidised work — it is what makes every engraved line, pierced opening and raised edge read separately instead of dissolving into one shiny surface. It also means the finish is not uniform by design, and small variations between pieces are normal rather than faults.
Put it on after perfume, hand cream and sanitiser, and take it off before washing up, swimming or sleeping. Wipe with a dry soft cloth only. Do not use silver polish, dip cleaners or toothpaste — they strip the blackening out of the recesses, which is the one kind of damage that cannot be undone on an oxidised piece. Store it dry in a pouch, away from other rings that could scratch it.
