A round silver face is worked in concentric rings and filled with pink and green meenakari enamel, with small pearls hanging from the lower rim. The band adjusts.
Meenakari is overwhelmingly a gold tradition — the technique was developed for gold cells, and almost everything with meena work is gold-toned. Laying it into oxidised silver is the harder and rarer combination, and it behaves differently: the dark metal gives the colours nothing to reflect off, so instead of glowing against warm gold they sit flat and chalky. That makes the result read as folk and tribal rather than courtly.
An unusual pairing even in meenakari, where red and green dominate. Pink is lighter in tone than the blackened silver around it, so it lifts off the surface, while the green is darker and sinks into it — the two colours therefore sit at different apparent depths rather than side by side on one plane, which is what gives this face its layered look.
Small pearls hang from the lower edge, adding movement that a rigid ring cannot otherwise have, and giving the circular face a direction — a bottom — that a plain mandala does not possess.
Adjustable at the back, so no ring size is needed. The drops mark the bottom, so sit them hanging downward.
Wear it alone with the hand bare. It suits handloom, cotton, block print and ivory, and the pink works with blush, white and grey as well as with stronger colours.
Festivals, daytime functions, weddings, daily wear and family gatherings.
Light for the size, though the pearls hang below the face, so take it off before anything hands-on.
This is brass given an oxidised, antique-silver finish rather than solid silver. The metal is deliberately darkened and then the raised surfaces are polished back, so the blackening stays in the recesses while the high points stay bright. That contrast is the entire point of oxidised work — it is what makes every engraved line, pierced opening and raised edge read separately instead of dissolving into one shiny surface. It also means the finish is not uniform by design, and small variations between pieces are normal rather than faults.
Put it on after perfume, hand cream and sanitiser, and take it off before washing up, swimming or sleeping. Wipe with a dry soft cloth only, and keep liquid away from the enamel. Do not use silver polish, dip cleaners or toothpaste — they strip the blackening out of the recesses, which is the one kind of damage that cannot be undone on an oxidised piece. Store it dry in a pouch, away from other rings that could scratch it.
