A round bloom built from many short overlapping petals sits across the finger — the marigold, rendered in oxidised silver with no stones. The band adjusts.
The marigold is the flower of Indian festivals, strung in garlands at doorways, temples and weddings because it is cheap, holds its colour and lasts days after cutting. Rendering it in metal is a quiet joke at its expense and also a compliment — the one flower that was never meant to last, made permanent. It is a far more everyday reference than a lotus, and the ring reads accordingly: festive rather than devotional.
A marigold is not a flower with a clear silhouette. It is a dense mass of short petals, which means its character lives entirely in the shadows between layers — exactly what oxidising provides. Blackening pools in the gaps between petals while the edges stay bright, so the bloom reads as deep rather than as a textured disc. In polished metal the same piece would look like a crumpled button.
Adjustable at the back, so no ring size is needed. Ease it open with both hands and set it once rather than resizing daily.
Wear it alone with the hand otherwise bare. It suits cotton, khadi, handloom and block print, and anything in marigold's own colours — mustard, orange, ochre — as well as plain ivory.
Festivals, pujas, daytime functions, daily wear and family gatherings.
Light, though the bloom stands slightly proud of the finger, so it is more noticeable than a flat face when putting a hand in a pocket.
This is brass given an oxidised, antique-silver finish rather than solid silver. The metal is deliberately darkened and then the raised surfaces are polished back, so the blackening stays in the recesses while the high points stay bright. That contrast is the entire point of oxidised work — it is what makes every engraved line, pierced opening and raised edge read separately instead of dissolving into one shiny surface. It also means the finish is not uniform by design, and small variations between pieces are normal rather than faults.
Put it on after perfume, hand cream and sanitiser, and take it off before washing up, swimming or sleeping. Wipe with a dry soft cloth only. Do not use silver polish, dip cleaners or toothpaste — they strip the blackening out of the recesses, which is the one kind of damage that cannot be undone on an oxidised piece. Store it dry in a pouch, away from other rings that could scratch it.
