A shallow dome covered edge to edge in fine granulation sits on an adjustable band, ringed with a row of tiny beads. Sold as a pair.
Granulation means covering a surface in minute metal grains rather than engraving it. Each grain is a tiny dome, and a dome has exactly one bright point from any angle — so a granulated surface produces hundreds of small highlights that persist however the foot is held, where an engraved pattern flashes at one angle and goes dark at another. On jewellery that is seen from constantly changing angles, as a toe ring is, that difference matters.
The face curves outward rather than lying flat. A dome sheds dirt, has no flat plane to scuff, and no rim standing proud to catch on a shoe lining — which on a toe ring is the difference between a piece that survives a year and one that does not.
Granulation is only visible if the gaps between grains are darker than the grains themselves. Blackening provides exactly that; in bright polish the same surface reads as a plain grey dome.
Adjustable at the back, so no size is needed. Ease it open with both hands and set it once.
Wear as a pair on the second toes. With no colour and no motif it goes with everything, and it is the most hard-wearing shape in the range.
Daily wear, weddings, festivals, pujas and everyday traditional dress.
Light, smooth and low, with nothing to catch — the easiest toe ring here to wear in closed shoes.
This is brass given an oxidised, antique-silver finish rather than solid silver. The metal is darkened and the raised surfaces are then polished back, so the blackening stays in the recesses while the high points stay bright. That contrast is the whole point of oxidised work — it is what makes every engraved line and pierced opening read separately instead of dissolving into one shiny surface, and it means small variations between pieces are normal rather than faults.
Toe rings live a harder life than any other jewellery — they are in shoes, in water and against the floor all day. Take them off before a bath or a swim, dry them if they do get wet, and wipe them with a dry soft cloth. Never use silver polish or dip cleaners: they strip the blackening out of the recesses, which is the one kind of damage that cannot be undone on an oxidised piece.
