A small face rises to a crowned crest with beading along its upper edge, blackened in the recesses, on an adjustable band. German silver finish, roughly 1 inch, supplied as a 2-piece set.
The crest at the top is the same device used above a niche in temple architecture, scaled down to a few millimetres. On a toe ring it does something practical as well as decorative — it gives the piece a definite top, so the ring reads as correctly oriented even though it turns freely, which a plain symmetrical face would not.
Small raised beads run along the crest. They catch light as a row of separate points rather than one continuous line, and because they stand proudest of anything on the piece they take the wear first, protecting the worked face below.
Everything here is scaled down. A toe ring is the one piece of jewellery that spends its day inside a shoe, against a floor or in water, so a low profile is not a style choice but the difference between a piece that survives and one that does not.
Adjustable at the back, so no size is needed. Ease it open with both hands and set it once.
Wear as a pair on the second toes, with or without a payal.
Daily wear, weddings, festivals, pujas and everyday traditional dress.
Type: Toe rings (bichiya), 2-piece set. Metal: Brass with German silver finish. Work: Crowned face with beaded crest. Size: approximately 1 inch. Fit: Adjustable, open band.
This is brass given an oxidised, antique-silver finish rather than solid silver. The metal is darkened and the raised surfaces are then polished back, so the blackening stays in the recesses while the high points stay bright. That contrast is the whole point of oxidised work — it is what makes every engraved line and pierced opening read separately instead of dissolving into one shiny surface, and it means small variations between pieces are normal rather than faults.
Put this on after perfume, hairspray and hand cream, and take it off before washing, swimming or sleeping. Wipe with a dry soft cloth and use a dry soft brush around the stone settings and between any pearls, where a cloth cannot reach. Store it in a zip-lock pouch — which is what the supplier themselves advise, and the single most effective thing for a plated piece, because it keeps humid air off the metal. Never use silver polish, dip cleaners or an ultrasonic cleaner.
The single most common way an oxidised piece is ruined is a silver dip. Those cleaners work by stripping surface compounds, which is exactly what the darkening is, so a few seconds in a dip takes a piece back to flat grey metal and the effect cannot be put back. A dry soft cloth is the only cleaning an oxidised piece should ever get.
Nothing here is hallmarked and none of it carries resale value, and both facts are stated plainly rather than buried. What you are buying is the design and the finish at a price that lets you match a piece to one outfit without weighing up the cost.
