A crescent toe ring is joined by a short length of fine chain to a small flower ring, so the pair spans two toes with the chain draping between them. German silver finish, roughly 1 inch. Supplied as a 1-piece set — for one foot.
This is the foot equivalent of a two-finger ring. Instead of an ornament sitting on a single toe there is a line crossing the top of the foot, and the eye reads the whole span rather than either ring individually — which makes it far more noticeable than a single bichiya of the same weight, because it occupies space that is normally bare.
The chain has to be exactly right: too short and the toes are tethered uncomfortably, too long and it sags underfoot. Correctly made it drapes with a slight curve when the foot is relaxed and straightens without pulling when the toes spread. Put the crescent on first, then the flower, and let the chain settle rather than pulling it taut.
Unlike the standard bichiya pairs, this is supplied as a single piece for one foot rather than two. It is a decorative rather than a ceremonial form — worn for an occasion rather than put on at a wedding and left.
Both rings are adjustable, so no size is needed. Ease each open with both hands and set them once.
Best with bare feet or open sandals — a chain across the foot does not work inside a closed shoe. It suits mehendis, weddings and photographs, where the foot is seen.
Weddings, mehendis, festivals, photo shoots and bridal wear.
Type: Chain-linked toe ring, 1-piece set (one foot). Metal: Brass with German silver finish. Work: Crescent ring chained to a flower ring. Size: approximately 1 inch. Fit: Both rings adjustable.
This is brass given an oxidised, antique-silver finish rather than solid silver. The metal is darkened and the raised surfaces are then polished back, so the blackening stays in the recesses while the high points stay bright. That contrast is the whole point of oxidised work — it is what makes every engraved line and pierced opening read separately instead of dissolving into one shiny surface, and it means small variations between pieces are normal rather than faults.
Put this on after perfume, hairspray and hand cream, and take it off before washing, swimming or sleeping. Wipe with a dry soft cloth and use a dry soft brush around the stone settings and between any pearls, where a cloth cannot reach. Store it in a zip-lock pouch — which is what the supplier themselves advise, and the single most effective thing for a plated piece, because it keeps humid air off the metal. Never use silver polish, dip cleaners or an ultrasonic cleaner.
