A flower set with black stones sits across the finger, and a larger teardrop-cut black stone hangs just below it, so the design runs down the finger rather than sitting on it. The band adjusts.
Almost nothing on a ring is allowed to dangle — it gets in the way, catches on things and swings when the hand is used. Suspending a drop just beneath the face is the one place it works, because the stone rests against the finger rather than hanging free in the air. The result is a ring with the proportions of a pendant: a wider element above, a tapering one below, and a clear direction down the hand.
The hanging stone is cut to a point at the bottom rather than left round. A round drop would read as a second, smaller flower and the eye would see two similar objects; a tapering one finishes the design, closing it off the way a full stop closes a sentence. It is the same logic that puts a pointed pendant at the base of a necklace rather than a disc.
Adjustable at the back, so no ring size is needed. The design has a clear top and bottom, so sit it with the drop pointing down the finger.
Wear it alone. Black suits charcoal, grey, white, indigo and black itself, and it is one of the few oxidised pieces that reads as evening rather than ethnic.
Parties, evenings, daily wear, office and travel.
Light, though the drop sits below the face, so take it off before anything that needs a firm grip.
This is brass given an oxidised, antique-silver finish rather than solid silver. The metal is deliberately darkened and then the raised surfaces are polished back, so the blackening stays in the recesses while the high points stay bright. That contrast is the entire point of oxidised work — it is what makes every engraved line, pierced opening and raised edge read separately instead of dissolving into one shiny surface. It also means the finish is not uniform by design, and small variations between pieces are normal rather than faults.
Put it on after perfume, hand cream and sanitiser, and take it off before washing up, swimming or sleeping. Wipe with a dry soft cloth only. Do not use silver polish, dip cleaners or toothpaste — they strip the blackening out of the recesses, which is the one kind of damage that cannot be undone on an oxidised piece. Store it dry in a pouch, away from other rings that could scratch it.
