A round face of curled silver wirework is arranged in a radiating mandala with a small red stone at the centre, the whole ringed by a border of raised beads. The band adjusts.
The filigree here is not a random field of curls but set out in a deliberate radial pattern, each quarter repeating the one before it. That combination — a technique that is built up by hand and a layout that demands exact symmetry — is considerably harder than either on its own, because every curl has to match its opposite number across the circle. Freeform filigree hides small variations; a mandala does not.
A single small red stone sits at the centre. Red is the most assertive colour available against blackened silver — the one that refuses to sit back into the metal — and a face made entirely of fine repeating wire needs exactly that: one strong, simple point to stop the eye before it starts circling the pattern.
Raised beads ring the outer edge, framing the wirework and taking the knocks. On a filigree piece that protection matters more than usual, since the wires themselves are the most fragile part of the construction.
Adjustable at the back, so no ring size is needed. The design is radial, so it cannot sit the wrong way up.
Wear it alone with the hand bare. It suits handloom, khadi, cotton and maroon, and sits naturally with other oxidised silver rather than gold. Take it off for anything rough.
Festivals, pujas, daytime functions, daily wear and family gatherings.
Very light for the width, since filigree is mostly air.
This is brass given an oxidised, antique-silver finish rather than solid silver. The metal is deliberately darkened and then the raised surfaces are polished back, so the blackening stays in the recesses while the high points stay bright. That contrast is the entire point of oxidised work — it is what makes every engraved line, pierced opening and raised edge read separately instead of dissolving into one shiny surface. It also means the finish is not uniform by design, and small variations between pieces are normal rather than faults.
Put it on after perfume, hand cream and sanitiser, and take it off before washing up, swimming or sleeping. Wipe with a dry soft cloth only. Do not use silver polish, dip cleaners or toothpaste — they strip the blackening out of the recesses, which is the one kind of damage that cannot be undone on an oxidised piece. Store it dry in a pouch, away from other rings that could scratch it.
