Product Description

A large oval cabochon fills this ring — domed, unfaceted, and milky rather than clear, so instead of sparkling it glows with a soft internal light that moves as the hand turns. Around it runs a close row of small clear stones, and the band is plain gold tone.

The design

That milky quality is deliberate and it is imitating moonstone, a feldspar whose internal layers scatter light into a floating sheen called adularescence. Real moonstone has been used in Indian jewellery for centuries and is associated with the moon and with calm; the imitation here reproduces the look rather than the mineral, but the effect on the hand is much the same.

A cabochon is the only sensible cut for a stone like this. Faceting a translucent, cloudy stone destroys exactly the quality you want from it, because facets work by bouncing light back out and this stone is interesting for the light it holds in. Domes are what show that.

On the hand

It is a medium-large ring that sits reasonably high but has no points or projections, so it is kinder to clothing than most statement rings here. Wear it on the index or middle finger, alone. It is particularly good with white, cream, pale blue and grey, where the stone reads as part of the outfit rather than as a contrast to it.

Fit and adjustment

There is no ring size to get right. The band is an open coil that flexes, so it fits a range of fingers. Set it once with the ring off the hand, gently, and leave it; metal tires from being flexed, not from being worn.

Colours and availability

One colourway is stocked, in the milky white shown. It is the colour the design exists for.

What it is made of, and how to keep it

Stones are cubic zirconia and coloured glass. CZ is grown rather than mined and cut like a diamond; the glass is chosen for depth of colour. Neither is a precious stone and neither is described here as one.

Brass carries the plating here. Heavy enough to feel like jewellery, soft enough to be worked finely, and stable over years.

Nothing here is hallmarked and nothing here holds resale value. What it holds is design: shapes drawn from a jewellery tradition several centuries old, made at a weight and a price that let you match a piece to one outfit without thinking twice about it. That is a perfectly good reason to buy jewellery, and it is the only claim this page makes.

Sizing is the usual worry when jewellery is bought for someone else, and it barely applies here. Necklaces and sets fasten with an adjustable chain, earrings need only a pierced lobe, and nothing has to be measured in advance. It arrives boxed and ready to give.

Handle it by the metal rather than the stones when putting it on, keep it dry, and store it in its pouch; that is genuinely all it asks. Payment is prepaid in every case. We do not run cash on delivery.

Less than most statement rings here. It sits fairly high but has no points or projections.

No. It is brass with a gold-tone plating, and it is not sold as gold. What it gives you is the colour and the weight of a far more expensive ring in something you can wear to a wedding without worrying about it.
That depends almost entirely on what it meets. Water, soap, hand sanitiser, perfume and cooking oil are what wear plating thin, so putting the ring on last and taking it off first is the whole of the maintenance.
No — glass and cubic zirconia, hand-set in the Indian manner. They are chosen for colour and for how they sit against gold tone rather than for hardness.
A dry soft cloth only. Never a dip cleaner or a metal polish: a dip will strip plating outright and polish wears it thin at exactly the raised points you want to keep bright.
Yes. The band is an open coil rather than a closed circle, so you widen or narrow it by a few millimetres with your fingers. It fits most adult sizes, roughly a UK J to a UK S.
Off the finger, gradually. Opening and closing the same band repeatedly is what tires the metal, so set it once to your finger and leave it there.
Better not. Water, soap, hand sanitiser, perfume and cooking oil are what shorten a plated ring's life. Put it on last when dressing and take it off first when washing up or bathing.
A dry soft cloth only. Never a silver dip or polish — a dip strips an oxidised finish completely and takes gold plating with it, and polish wears plating thin at the high points.
