Product Description

Product Overview

This long mangalsutra is built differently from the usual bead-and-spacer design. Instead of running black beads the whole way down, it alternates flat woven mesh straps with short panels of beadwork, so the chain has weight and breadth of its own before you ever reach the pendant. Round flower rosettes mark each junction. At the bottom sits a wide fan pendant with a red stone flower at its centre and a fringe of teardrop enamel below. The metal carries a warm gold tone produced by a copper polish.

Design Details

The upper section is a plain fine chain that sits behind the neck, and from it the design opens into two flat straps of tightly woven gold-tone mesh, each about the width of a ribbon. Between the mesh sections, short panels of black beads are threaded in double lines, and where mesh meets beadwork a round flower rosette covers the join, its petals worked in relief around a domed centre. This alternation continues down both sides until the two straps meet at the pendant. The pendant itself is a broad scalloped fan: a ridged half-disc, banded across the lower edge in white enamel, with a red flower raised at its centre and paisley wings sweeping out on either side. Small teardrop enamel pieces hang in a row along the bottom.

Product Highlights

  • Flat woven mesh straps alternating with black bead panels
  • Flower rosettes covering each junction along the chain
  • Wide scalloped fan pendant with a raised stone flower
  • White enamel banding and a teardrop fringe beneath the pendant
  • Warm gold tone from a copper polish finish

Styling Suggestions

The mesh straps give this piece more presence on the chest than a plain bead mangalsutra, so it deserves a quiet outfit. A plain silk blouse or an unembroidered kurta neckline is ideal, and deep shades such as maroon, bottle green and navy set off the gold particularly well. Since the straps are wide, avoid a second chain or pendant, and keep earrings small enough that the eye travels down to the pendant rather than stopping at the ear.

Perfect For

Weddings, receptions and sangeet evenings, festivals such as Diwali and Durga Puja, Karwa Chauth, and gifting at an engagement or a wedding in the family. It suits anyone who wants a mangalsutra with a substantial look without the weight of solid metal.

Product Details

  • Base metal: brass, finished in a warm gold-toned copper polish
  • Chain: flat woven mesh straps with black bead panels and flower rosettes
  • Stones: red stone flower at the pendant centre with enamel detailing
  • Weight: approximately 32 g
  • Supplied in the single design shown in the photographs; earrings are not included

Care Instructions

Woven mesh holds dust and moisture more readily than a plain chain, so wipe it with a dry soft cloth after each wear and never rinse it. Keep the piece away from perfume, hair spray, sanitiser and water, put it on after dressing, and store it flat in its pouch so the mesh straps do not crease and the bead panels do not twist.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most of the chain here is flat woven mesh rather than beads, with black bead panels only at intervals. That gives it more width and presence on the chest, and it is why the piece reads as jewellery along its whole length.
It is a long rani haar length, made so the pendant sits on the chest. It is not designed to be worn short at the throat.
No, this listing is for the mangalsutra by itself.
Brass with a copper polish, which gives the warm gold tone seen in the photographs. It is not gold plating, and we describe it as it is.
About 32 g, which is light for a piece of this width. The mesh is woven rather than solid, so it carries the look of a heavier necklace without the weight.
Only with a dry soft cloth, worked gently along the weave. Do not use water or liquid polish, as moisture sits in the mesh and is difficult to dry out.
The straps are flexible but they hold their shape best when stored flat. Folding the piece into a small box is what causes a permanent kink in a mesh strap.
It is better kept for occasions. Daily exposure to water, soap and cooking will dull the polish and settle dust into the mesh far faster than occasional wear does.
The base metal is brass. If brass or polished fashion jewellery usually irritates your skin, this is not the right piece for you.
