This long gold plated mangalsutra follows the rani haar length rather than the short everyday style, with double rows of black beads running down from the neck to a wide floral pendant that rests at the centre of the chest. Ornate gold spacer plates break the bead rows at intervals, and the pendant is set with small red and green stones in the traditional arrangement. A matching pair of earrings is included, repeating the pendant shape at a smaller scale. It is made for the occasions when a short mangalsutra would disappear under heavy clothing.
The chain is built from four parallel strands of small black beads, grouped into two pairs, so the piece has real presence across the chest without the weight of a solid gold chain. At regular intervals the strands pass through rectangular gold-tone plates worked with a fine filigree pattern, which hold the rows in line and add ornament along the full length. The pendant at the bottom is the centrepiece: a broad fan of gold petals radiating from a domed centre, set with small red and green stones and finished along the lower edge with a row of hanging gold beads that move as you walk. The earrings echo the fan shape with the same stone colours and their own bead fringe. Everything is finished in a warm antique gold tone rather than a bright yellow plating.
A long mangalsutra needs an open neckline to be seen, so wear it with a plain saree blouse, a simple round neck, or a kurta without its own neckline embroidery. It suits silk and heavier festive fabrics particularly well, where a short mangalsutra would be lost. Because the pendant already carries red and green, an outfit in one of those shades or in a neutral like ivory or gold lets it sit comfortably rather than competing. Keep bangles gold-toned and skip a second necklace entirely.
Weddings in the family, festivals, Karwa Chauth and Teej, pujas, anniversary celebrations, and as a gift for a wife, daughter-in-law or sister. It is the piece for occasions when the everyday mangalsutra is not enough, and it is also bought by women who want a second, dressier option alongside the one they wear daily.
Gold plating is a surface layer, so daily exposure to water and chemicals will shorten its life. Keep this piece for occasions rather than everyday wear if you want the colour to hold, put it on after perfume and hair spray have dried, and take it off before bathing or sleeping. Wipe it with a dry soft cloth after wearing, store it flat so the bead strands do not twist around each other, and keep it in its pouch away from other jewellery.
