Two pink stones sit at either end of a gold filigree disc, the whole piece long enough to span two adjacent fingers. The band adjusts.
This treats the hand as a single surface rather than decorating one finger at a time. Instead of an object sitting on a finger there is a line crossing the back of the hand, and the eye reads the whole span rather than either end individually — which makes it far more noticeable than a single ring of the same weight, because it occupies space that is normally empty.
Putting a stone at each end and the goldwork in the middle gives the piece two bright points with a quiet passage between them. The eye travels from one to the other across the filigree, which is what ties a two-finger design together — without that pull between the ends it would read as two separate rings that happen to be joined.
The central disc is built from fine drawn wire curled and joined rather than cut from sheet, which is why a piece spanning this much of the hand stays light. Filigree is assembled from nothing rather than reduced from something, and it is mostly air.
Adjustable, so no sizes are needed. Fit it across two adjacent fingers and let it settle rather than forcing the span wider; open it gently with both thumbs so both ends move together.
Wear it alone — the hand needs nothing else. Pink and gold suits blush, ivory, cream, maroon and dusty rose, and it is a photographic piece, well suited to occasions where your hands will be seen.
Weddings, receptions, parties, festivals and photo shoots.
Light for its size, but it does link two fingers, so take it off for anything that needs free hands.
This is brass with a gold-tone plating rather than solid gold, which is what keeps the price where it is. Plating is a surface rather than a bulk property, so how long it lasts depends almost entirely on what it meets. Rings have a harder life than earrings — hands are washed, knocked and creamed all day — so a gold-plated ring will show wear sooner than a gold-plated earring will. Taking it off before washing your hands makes more difference than anything else you can do.
Put it on after hand cream, perfume and sanitiser, and take it off before washing up, swimming or sleeping. Wipe with a dry soft cloth after wearing. Never use silver polish, dip cleaners, bleach or an ultrasonic cleaner. Store it dry in a pouch rather than loose, so it cannot rub against other rings.
