Turquoise-blue enamel fills the face in smooth unbroken areas bounded by gold lines, so the colour lies flush with the metal rather than sitting on top of it. The band adjusts.
A set stone always stands proud of its mount and has an edge where it meets the metal. Enamel does neither — it is fused into the surface, so it finishes perfectly level with the gold around it, and the join is a line rather than a step. That flushness is the whole reason enamel is used where it is: it produces a continuous surface of metal and colour, which no amount of stone setting can imitate.
Turquoise blue is the most common enamel colour after green and red, and on gold it behaves very differently from the way turquoise stone does on silver. Against warm gold the cool blue is a hard contrast that keeps both colours sharp, where on blackened silver the same blue reads as soft and chalky. Same colour, opposite effect, decided entirely by what is around it.
Adjustable at the back, so no ring size is needed. Ease it open with both hands and set it once.
Wear it alone or with one plain band. Turquoise and gold suits white, ivory, teal, navy and warm neutrals, and works with Western clothing as easily as with a kurta.
Parties, festivals, office, daytime functions and daily wear.
Light and completely flush — enamel adds colour without adding height, so nothing catches.
This is brass with a gold-tone plating rather than solid gold, which is what keeps the price where it is. Plating is a surface rather than a bulk property, so how long it lasts depends almost entirely on what it meets. Rings have a harder life than earrings — hands are washed, knocked and creamed all day — so a gold-plated ring will show wear sooner than a gold-plated earring will. Taking it off before washing your hands makes more difference than anything else you can do.
Put it on after hand cream, perfume and sanitiser, and take it off before washing up, swimming or sleeping. Wipe with a dry soft cloth after wearing and keep liquid away from the enamel. Never use silver polish, dip cleaners, bleach or an ultrasonic cleaner. Store it dry in a pouch rather than loose, so it cannot rub against other rings.
Type: Adjustable enamel ring. Metal: Brass. Finish: Gold-tone plating with turquoise-blue enamel. Work: Flush enamel areas bounded by gold lines. Fit: Adjustable, open band.
Rings take more punishment than anything else you wear, because hands do the work. Washing up, handbag straps, car doors and keyboards all meet the ring before they meet you, and a raised setting takes the impact first. Taking it off for anything mechanical costs nothing and doubles how long it looks new.
A piece at this price is bought to be worn rather than kept. The sensible way to judge it is by how often it will leave the box, not by what it would fetch if it never did.
