Product Description

A rectangular green stone, cut with stepped facets and clipped corners in the emerald manner, set high in a gold-tone collet and ringed with a single row of small clear stones. The band is slim and plain, so the whole ring is the stone and its halo and nothing else.

About the design

Green against yellow gold is the oldest colour pairing in Indian jewellery and the one that reads most immediately as emerald, which is exactly the effect the maker is after. The stepped cut helps: by reflecting light in broad flat planes rather than scattering it, it shows the colour of the stone honestly instead of breaking it up into sparkle, which is what a brilliant cut would do.

Wearing it

Because the band is slim and the setting compact, this is one of the easier gold rings here to wear with ordinary clothes and to stack with a plain band. It is small enough for an office and dressy enough for an evening, which is a narrow and useful niche.

Fit and adjustment

There is no ring size to get right. The band is an open coil that flexes, so it fits a range of fingers. Set it once with the ring off the hand, gently, and leave it; metal tires from being flexed, not from being worn.

Colours and availability

Only the green is stocked. It is the colourway the design was made for, and the one worth having.

What it is made of, and how to keep it

The white stones are CZ, a laboratory-grown crystal that is a real stone rather than paste, and the colour comes from glass. We name both plainly rather than reaching for gemstone words the piece has not earned.

Underneath the colour it is brass. That is why it sits with some weight rather than feeling like foil, and why it holds its shape.

Sizing is the usual worry when jewellery is bought for someone else, and it barely applies here. Necklaces and sets fasten with an adjustable chain, earrings need only a pierced lobe, and nothing has to be measured in advance. It arrives boxed and ready to give.

The photographs on this page are of the piece itself under ordinary light rather than a studio set-up, so what you see is close to what arrives. Screens do shift colour, golds especially, so if an exact shade matters to you, ask on the enquiry and we will describe it against something familiar.

These arrive in small runs. When a colour sells through it is usually gone rather than reordered, because the supplier moves on to the next design. That is why availability is confirmed by hand before an order is taken rather than promised by a stock counter.

Take it off before washing, swimming or sleeping, wipe it with a dry cloth, and keep it in a pouch rather than loose where other pieces can scuff it. Payment is prepaid in every case. We do not run cash on delivery.

Frequently Asked Questions

A rectangular green stone cut with stepped facets and clipped corners in the emerald manner, set high in a gold-tone collet.
By design. A stepped cut reflects light in broad flat planes and shows colour honestly, where a brilliant cut would break the colour up into white sparkle.
A single stone reads as small because the eye has nothing to measure it against. Small stones around it give that comparison and hide the join between metal and stone.
Yes. The band is slim and the setting compact, which is unusual among the gold rings here.
Yes — small enough for an office and dressy enough for an evening.
No. It is brass with a gold-tone plating, and it is not sold as gold. What it gives you is the colour and the weight of a far more expensive ring in something you can wear to a wedding without worrying about it.
That depends almost entirely on what it meets. Water, soap, hand sanitiser, perfume and cooking oil are what wear plating thin, so putting the ring on last and taking it off first is the whole of the maintenance.
No — glass and cubic zirconia, hand-set in the Indian manner. They are chosen for colour and for how they sit against gold tone rather than for hardness.
A dry soft cloth only. Never a dip cleaner or a metal polish: a dip will strip plating outright and polish wears it thin at exactly the raised points you want to keep bright.
Yes. The band is an open coil rather than a closed circle, so you widen or narrow it by a few millimetres with your fingers. It fits most adult sizes, roughly a UK J to a UK S.
Off the finger, gradually. Opening and closing the same band repeatedly is what tires the metal, so set it once to your finger and leave it there.
Better not. Water, soap, hand sanitiser, perfume and cooking oil are what shorten a plated ring's life. Put it on last when dressing and take it off first when washing up or bathing.
A dry soft cloth only. Never a silver dip or polish — a dip strips an oxidised finish completely and takes gold plating with it, and polish wears plating thin at the high points.
