The cigar band is one of the oldest ideas in jewellery and one of the hardest to improve on: a wide, smooth cylinder of metal that wraps the finger completely. This version adds two raised rims running around the edges and a single engraved medallion at the centre, so the eye has somewhere to rest.
A wide band changes the proportion of a hand in a way that no slim ring can. It covers a real stretch of finger, it reflects a broad sheet of light, and it makes everything else you wear look more deliberate. This one is wide enough to be unmistakably a statement, but the surface is rounded rather than flat, so it follows the curve of the finger instead of standing off it.
The two raised rims at the edges serve a quiet practical purpose as well as a decorative one: they take the brunt of contact with desks, bags and door handles, which keeps the broad central surface looking smoother for longer. The medallion at the centre is engraved into the metal rather than applied on top, so it cannot lift or peel. Despite its width the ring weighs only around four grams, because the wall is kept thin.
Wear it alone. A band this wide needs no help, and crowding it with other rings on the same hand only makes the hand look busy. It is most striking on the index finger, where the width has room to read properly. With a plain outfit it becomes the entire accessory; with a heavily worked saree it holds its own against the embroidery rather than disappearing into it.
A broad polished surface shows every flaw, which is why cheap wide bands look so disappointing after a few weeks — the dulling is spread across a large area where you cannot miss it. The stainless steel core and anti-tarnish gold plating used here keep that surface even and warm, so the ring continues to look like a solid piece of metal rather than a plated shell.
Wide bands are often uncomfortable because the edges press into the finger when it bends. Here the inner surface is rounded and the rims are smoothed, which lets the knuckle move freely. The ring is made with an adjustable fit to settle on most finger sizes; because the band is broad, take a little extra care to seat it evenly rather than forcing it over the knuckle.
Wipe the broad face with a dry soft cloth after wearing, which is all it usually needs. Put the ring on after perfume and moisturiser. Store it in its pouch, and remove it before swimming, bathing or kitchen work with harsh cleaning agents.
