A butterfly with solid wings swept upward, their surfaces covered in a fine even texture, sits at one end of an open twin band. A round brilliant-cut stone in slim claws sits at the other. Of the butterfly wraps in this range it is the most substantial-looking, because nothing is cut away.
Pierced and filigree butterflies are light and lacy. This one is the opposite: the wings are whole, swept up at an angle rather than lying flat, and the texture across them is dense enough to hold light evenly from edge to edge. The result reads as a solid piece of gold shaped into a butterfly rather than as an outline of one, which gives it more presence on the hand despite being no larger.
The upward sweep of the wings is the detail that matters. A flat butterfly presents one surface and one reflection; angled wings present two, so the motif catches light from two directions at once and reads as three-dimensional. The texture is fine and uniform, scattering light softly so the wings glow rather than glare. The body is a slim raised line between them, and the wing edges are rounded throughout. The solitaire opposite is claw-set and raised, and the ring weighs around four grams.
Wear it on the ring or middle finger with the rest of the hand plain. The twin bands supply their own layering. Because the wings are solid rather than openworked, this is the most practical of the butterfly wraps for everyday use — there is nothing to collect dust and nothing fine enough to snag. It suits office wear, daily wear and travel.
An evenly textured surface depends on being uniformly bright. Patchy dulling is far more visible on a continuous textured field than on an openworked one, because there is nowhere for the eye to rest and the unevenness reads immediately as wear. The stainless steel core and anti-tarnish gold plating used here are what keep the wings consistent.
The open wrap makes the ring adjustable across most finger sizes. The wings are rounded at every edge and the solid construction means there are no fine parts to bend out of shape.
Use a dry soft brush over the textured wings and around the claws, and check occasionally that the stone sits firm. Put the ring on after perfume and lotion. Store it in its pouch, and remove it before swimming, bathing and housework.
