Upright pillars, horizontal cross-bars and small beaded finials, assembled into a wide openwork band that looks unmistakably like a row of shrine gateways seen in miniature. It is one of the more unusual pieces in the range, and the most clearly rooted in South Indian temple goldwork.
Temple jewellery borrows its vocabulary from buildings — gopuram tiers, pillared mandapams, stepped cornices — and it works because those forms already carry repetition and rhythm. Here that language is reduced to its essentials: verticals, horizontals and punctuation. The result reads as traditional without copying any particular deity or motif, which makes it far more wearable than literal temple jewellery.
The pillars run the full width of the band and are joined top and bottom by plain rails, so the structure is rigid despite being mostly open. Between them, short cross-bars and tiny beaded spheres break up the gaps — those beads are the detail that lifts the design from a plain grille into something ornamented. The upper edge carries a row of small finials, like the tips of a cornice. The band is wide, but because it is openwork it weighs around four grams.
This belongs with traditional dressing. Wear it alone on the middle or index finger with silk, kanjeevaram or anything with a woven gold border. It is particularly good alongside temple-style jhumkas or a plain gold chain, and it stands up well to heavy bridal clothing where a subtler ring would vanish. Against modern plain clothing it reads as a deliberate heritage note.
This is openwork, beading and tight internal corners all in one piece — three of the hardest things for plating to survive. The corners where pillars meet rails are exactly where moisture settles, and once those darken the architecture loses its crispness and the ring just looks like a dirty grille. The stainless steel core and anti-tarnish gold plating used here are what keep the structure legible.
The ring is made with an adjustable fit for most finger sizes. The plain top and bottom rails give the band smooth edges, so despite the ornament it is comfortable to wear and does not abrade the neighbouring finger.
Use a dry soft brush and work into the corners between pillars and rails. Never use toothpaste or an ultrasonic cleaner. Put the ring on after perfume and hair products, store it in its pouch, and remove it before swimming, bathing and cooking.
