Two fine beaded rails run parallel around the finger, and between them a small serpent winds its way across, head raised at one end and body curving in a tight S. The whole motif is barely wider than the gap between the two bands, which is exactly what makes it worth looking at.
Most serpent rings are large, because the motif is easy to make dramatic and hard to make delicate. This one goes the other way: the snake is miniature, finely textured along its back, and framed by the two beaded rails as if it were set into a channel. The result is a piece that looks like fine jewellery rather than fashion jewellery, and it reads as detail rather than as a statement.
The two rails are granulated — made up of tiny beads rather than smooth wire — so the frame has its own soft sparkle and the serpent reads as polished against it. The snake's body carries a fine scale texture along its length, and its head is rounded with no sharp point. Because the rails are joined by the serpent itself, the structure is rigid and the two bands keep their spacing. Total weight is around four grams.
Wear it on the ring or middle finger. The twin-rail construction already gives the look of two stacked bands, so the hand reads as layered without any further effort. It is understated enough for the office, detailed enough to notice up close, and it carries a slightly unexpected motif, which makes it a more interesting choice than a plain beaded band.
This design combines two of the most plating-hostile surfaces there are: granulation, which is all tiny hollows, and fine scale texture. Both lose their definition quickly under ordinary plating, and when they do, the rails look like plain dull wire and the serpent becomes an unidentifiable squiggle. The stainless steel core and anti-tarnish gold plating used here are what keep the detail legible.
The ring is made with an adjustable fit for most finger sizes. It is low-profile, with nothing raised enough to catch on sleeves, and the beaded rails are rounded against the skin.
Use a dry soft brush along the rails and over the serpent. Put the ring on after perfume and hand cream. Store it in its pouch, and remove it before swimming, bathing and washing up.
