A single fine wire crosses over itself and loops back, forming a figure-of-eight that sits flat along the finger before continuing round as an open band. There is no join, no setting and no decoration — the knot is simply what the wire does on its way past.
The best minimal jewellery usually comes from a single uninterrupted gesture, and this is about as pure an example as a ring can be. Because the wire is continuous, the eye follows it round the loop and out the other side, which gives the design a sense of movement that a soldered-on charm never has. The infinity knot also carries its own meaning — continuity, something without end — which makes it a natural choice for anniversaries and for gifts between close people.
The wire is round in section and polished to a mirror, so a single highlight travels round the loops as the hand turns. It is kept deliberately fine, which is what makes the knot read clearly instead of becoming a congested tangle. The band is open at the back, with the two ends passing rather than meeting, and both tips are rounded. The whole ring weighs around four grams and is close to imperceptible on the hand.
This is a stacking ring above all. Wear two or three on neighbouring fingers, or pair it with a plain hairline band and a single small solitaire. It is understated enough for the office, light enough to forget you are wearing it, and it works with absolutely everything. On its own on the little finger it is particularly good.
The infinity motif reads as a quiet promise rather than a formal one, so it suits anniversaries, friendships and milestones without the weight an engagement-style ring would carry. The adjustable open band removes the problem of not knowing someone's size.
A fine polished wire is the hardest thing in jewellery to keep looking good, because there is so little metal and the whole effect depends on an unbroken bright line. Once the surface clouds, the travelling highlight breaks and the ring looks like a piece of bent wire. The stainless steel core and anti-tarnish gold plating used here are what keep the line clean.
The open back makes the ring adjustable to most finger sizes. Open and close it gently with finger pressure rather than force, and avoid flexing it repeatedly, as any fine open band will loosen if worked back and forth.
A dry soft cloth over the wire is all it needs. Put the ring on after hand cream and perfume. Store it in its pouch, and remove it before swimming, bathing and washing up.
