A cluster of open circles of varying size, each rimmed with tiny beads, fused together into a shallow dome that curves across the finger. It looks like foam caught at the moment it set, or a honeycomb that grew unevenly — and like both of those, it is mostly air.
Dome rings usually mean weight. This one solves that by building the dome out of holes: the circles are open right through, so a piece that covers a broad stretch of the finger still comes in at around four grams. The practical effect is that you can wear it through a long evening, and the visual effect is better still — light passes through the openwork and the skin shows beneath, so the gold looks lifted rather than planted on the hand.
The circles are deliberately irregular in size, which is what gives the cluster its organic, grown quality rather than the mechanical look of a repeating honeycomb. Every circle is rimmed in fine granulation, so the entire dome glitters softly at its edges without a single stone. The outline of the cluster is uneven rather than cut to a neat circle, which is the detail that makes it read as natural. Underneath, the shank narrows to a plain band.
Wear it alone on the index or middle finger with the hand otherwise bare. It is a festive and occasion piece — Diwali, weddings, receptions — and it works beautifully with silk and brocade because the beaded rims pick up the same light as zari. Against plain modern clothing it becomes a sculptural focal point. Keep other jewellery simple.
This is openwork and granulation together, which is the most demanding combination there is for a plated finish. Every circle has an inner face as well as an outer one, and every beaded rim is a run of tiny hollows. On ordinary jewellery the inner faces go dark first — and because you see straight through the openings, that darkness is immediately visible. The stainless steel core and anti-tarnish gold plating used here cover the whole structure evenly.
The ring is made with an adjustable fit for most finger sizes. The dome is shallow rather than tall and the beaded rims are rounded, so it is comfortable for long wear despite its width.
Use a dry soft brush and work it through the openings from both sides. Never use toothpaste or an ultrasonic cleaner. Put the ring on after perfume and hair products, store it in its pouch, and remove it before swimming, bathing and cooking.
