Two sets of beaded strands cross each other on the diagonal and meet at regular intervals, leaving a row of open diamonds between them. The result is a wide band that behaves like woven work rather than like solid metal, with a rhythm that runs right around the finger.
The trellis is the oldest decorative grid there is, and it works because the eye follows the diagonals rather than stopping at the edges. On a ring that matters: a solid wide band stops abruptly at both borders, while a trellis keeps moving, which makes the finger look longer rather than shorter. The strands themselves carry fine beaded texture, so each one catches light separately and the whole surface shimmers slightly instead of reflecting as a single sheet.
Where the strands cross they are joined, so the structure holds its shape and does not splay with wear. The open diamonds between them are what keep the weight at around four grams despite the width of the band. Both edges are finished with a continuous beaded border, which contains the pattern and protects the crossing points from catching. Every strand is rounded in profile, so there are no flat edges anywhere against the skin.
Wear it alone on the middle or index finger. The pattern is busy enough that any neighbouring decorative ring competes with it, so keep the rest of the hand plain. It belongs with festive and traditional clothing, and it works particularly well with fabrics that have their own weave or texture — tussar, handloom cotton, raw silk — where the two patterns speak to each other.
Every crossing point in a trellis creates a tight junction where moisture collects and where no cloth will ever reach. On ordinary plated jewellery those junctions darken first, and because they sit at regular intervals the whole pattern develops a grey grid across it. The stainless steel core and anti-tarnish gold plating used here are what prevent that.
The ring is made with an adjustable fit for most finger sizes. The woven structure has a little natural give, which makes a wide band of this kind sit more comfortably than a rigid one.
Clean it with a dry soft brush, paying attention to the crossing points. Put the ring on after perfume and lotion. Store it in its pouch away from humidity, and remove it before swimming, bathing and heavy housework.
