Fine strands of gold branch, fork and rejoin across the finger, growing taller towards the centre and thinning away at the edges. It looks less designed than grown — closer to a creeper on a wall or a piece of sea fan than to anything drawn with a compass.
The branches do not repeat and they do not meet at regular intervals, so the openings between them are all different shapes and sizes. That is harder to get right than a regular pattern: too even and it looks like a failed lattice, too wild and it looks broken. Here the density increases towards the centre of the ring, which gives the design a clear high point and makes the whole thing read as deliberate.
Each strand is round in section with a slightly uneven surface, as though drawn by hand rather than extruded, and the junctions where branches meet are thickened for strength. The outline along the top edge is left ragged, following the branch tips rather than being trimmed to a line — that single decision is what keeps the ring looking organic. Because so much of the design is open space, a ring this wide still weighs around four grams.
Wear it alone, on the index or middle finger, with the rest of the hand bare. It suits festive dressing and works beautifully against silk and tissue, where the open branches catch the same light as zari work. It also sits well in a modern, minimal context, where its irregularity becomes the point. Pair it with plain earrings and nothing on the wrist.
Branching openwork is almost all surface and no mass. Every strand is exposed on every side, every junction is a crevice, and you can see straight through the piece, which means any dulling on the far side is visible from the front. Ordinary plating on a design like this looks tired within a season. The stainless steel core and anti-tarnish gold plating used here cover the strands evenly all round.
The ring is made with an adjustable fit for most finger sizes. The branch tips are rounded and the structure is open, so despite the width it is light and does not trap heat against the skin.
Use a dry soft brush, working gently between the branches from both sides. Put the ring on after perfume and hair products. Store it in its pouch rather than loose so the branches are not knocked, and remove it before swimming, bathing and heavy work.
