Walk through any Mughal monument and you will find jaali — stone screens pierced into repeating lattices so that light and air pass through while the wall still stands. This ring borrows that idea directly. It is a wide band, but almost half of it is empty space, built from interlocking circles outlined in tiny raised beads.
A solid band this wide would be heavy, hot against the skin and unforgiving on the knuckle. Built as a lattice instead, it covers the same stretch of finger while weighing around four grams, and the open structure lets the skin show through, which keeps the gold from looking like a cuff. From a distance you see a broad band of goldwork. Up close you see the pattern and the gaps.
Every circle in the lattice is outlined in granulation — rows of minute raised beads, the technique Indian goldsmiths have used for centuries to make plain metal catch light. The beading means the surface is never flat, so the ring glitters softly as the hand moves without needing a single stone. The edges of the band are finished with a beaded border, which frames the lattice and stops the pattern from ending raggedly.
Wear it alone, on the middle or index finger, and let it be the whole story. It sits beautifully with traditional dressing and with handloom, and it has a particular affinity for anything with chikankari or cutwork, because the open lattice echoes the fabric. If you want to layer, use a plain hairline band on another finger rather than a second decorative ring.
Granulated openwork is the single most demanding shape for a plated finish. There are thousands of tiny hollows between the beads, every one of them exposed on both sides of the lattice, and none of them reachable with a cloth. Ordinary plating goes grey in those hollows within weeks, and once that happens the beading flattens into a dull texture. The stainless steel core and anti-tarnish gold plating used here are the reason the pattern keeps its definition.
The ring is made with an adjustable fit for most finger sizes. Despite the width, the lattice flexes slightly and the beaded edges are rounded, so the knuckle moves freely and nothing digs in.
Use a dry soft brush, which reaches into the lattice from both sides. Never use toothpaste or an ultrasonic cleaner. Apply perfume and lotion before putting the ring on. Store it in its pouch, and take it off before swimming, bathing and washing up.
