The number in the title is the idol grade this piece is made for. It is the one measurement that matters, and getting it wrong is the single most common reason deity shringar has to be exchanged, so it is worth confirming before you order.
American Diamond is cubic zirconia, grown rather than mined. On deity ornaments it does a specific job: mandir lighting is warm and dim, and CZ holds its brightness under a lamp where cheaper paste stones simply go grey.
Shringar is changed after snan, with the idol dried first. Many families keep a plain everyday set and a richer one for Janmashtami, Holi and Diwali; buying a second set is less about variety than about not putting the good one through daily handling.
Giving shringar is a traditional gesture at Janmashtami and at a new home. The one thing to establish first is the idol number; everything else is a matter of taste.
Store it away from the diya. Heat and soot age a plated finish quickly, and in a mandir both are constant. A dry wipe after use and a closed pouch between wearings is the whole of the care it needs.
Deity ornaments are handled more often than worn jewellery, because the idol is bathed and dressed each day. Pieces that fasten simply get used; fiddly ones stay in the box.
