Two peacocks stand facing each other, their tails fanned upward and outward to fill the whole shape of the earring, with small coloured stones set where the birds meet and at the outer tips.
Available in 4 colours: Green, Sea Green, Olive Green and Baby Pink. The colour refers to the small accent stones.
Mirrored motifs are a recurring device in Indian craft — two birds, two elephants, two fish facing each other — and they work because symmetry reads as deliberate and complete. Here the two fanned tails together form a broad, almost heart shaped outline, so the earring has a strong silhouette even at this small size.
The birds are cut in openwork rather than solid silver, with the tail feathers separated by fine slots, so light passes through the design and it never looks like a heavy plate on the ear.
Each peacock has a clearly modelled head, a raised crest and engraved lines running through the body and tail. At this scale that detail is what separates real silver craft from a stamped shape, and it rewards a closer look.
Post fitting, flat against the lobe. Nothing hangs, so there is no swing and nothing to catch on a dupatta or a collar. At this weight they are comfortable all day.
Cotton kurtas, handloom sarees and plain shirts. They are small enough for the office and characterful enough not to be dull. Tuck your hair behind the ear to show the full fan of the tails.
At this level, a stone set silver stud is one of the least risky things to buy. If you have not worn oxidised silver before, a small peacock pair tells you quickly whether the matte antique finish suits your skin tone and your wardrobe, without committing to a large piece.
Two creatures facing each other is one of the oldest arrangements in Indian decorative art, appearing on temple doorways, textile borders, brass vessels and jewellery alike. Part of the reason is practical — a mirrored design is naturally balanced and needs no further composition — and part is symbolic, with paired birds standing for companionship and paired elephants for prosperity. In an earring the arrangement has a further advantage: the two outward facing tails create a wide silhouette from a small amount of metal, so the piece looks larger than it weighs.
Keep them in a zip lock pouch, put them on after perfume, wipe with a dry soft cloth and keep them away from water.
