Oxidised drop earrings on a brass body, blackened and then polished back and coloured stones. The drop is pierced as jali lattice. They measure about 1 inch.
The design hangs free below the post, so it swings. A hanging earring reads as livelier than a stud of the same size for exactly that reason.
The drop is cut as jali — pierced lattice work, borrowed from the stone screens of Mughal architecture. Jali makes a large shape weightless and it lets the skin show through, so the earring reads as light rather than solid.
A close border of pearls rings the outer edge, and the pearls are what soften a frame that would otherwise look severe.
An oval stone carries the centre. Oval is the quiet choice between round and pear — it fills more space than a round stone without pointing anywhere.
A triangular stone caps the design at the lobe, a shape rarely used and all the more noticeable for it.
Cutting the body open rather than leaving it solid halves the weight and doubles the interest, because the background shows through and the outline stays crisp.
The finish is oxidised German silver over brass. Oxidising is a deliberate chemical darkening, not tarnish and not dirt — the dark sits in the recesses and the raised surfaces are polished back, which is what gives this kind of work its depth.
The coloured stone is Monalisa — the Indian trade name for a translucent glass stone, cut and polished so it holds a soft internal glow rather than a hard sparkle. Against dark oxidised metal that softness is exactly right; a brilliant-cut crystal would look wrong here.
There are 5 colourways: Yellow, Blue, Green, Baby Pink and Red. The swatches on this page show them; the shade you choose is confirmed on your enquiry before anything is charged.
They go as happily over a plain black kurta as over bandhani, which is the useful thing about oxidised work: it does not insist on being ethnic.
A note on what this is not: it is not hallmarked, it is not precious metal, and it has no resale value. Keyura sells it as what it is — a well-made plated piece with good stones, priced accordingly and described without the word gold doing any work it has not earned.
Treat the finish as the wearing part. Keep it away from water, perfume and hair spray, put the earrings on after you have finished dressing, and wipe them with a dry cotton cloth before they go away. Stored dry in a zip pouch with the air pressed out, the finish lasts for years; left in a humid bathroom it will not last a season.
Checkout on this piece runs through an enquiry rather than a cart. Colour stock moves fast at this price, so we confirm the exact shade, the price and the delivery estimate with you before anything is paid. Keyura is prepaid only — there is no cash on delivery on any order, on any product.
