A long straight pin passes through the lobe and rises along the ear, carrying two flat gold leaves set at a slight angle to each other. There is nothing else — no stones, no beads, no texture.
This is the most reduced piece in the collection. Two leaves and a line. What makes it worth owning rather than merely empty is the angle: the leaves are set slightly apart and slightly turned, so they catch light separately and the eye reads two distinct shapes rather than one blurred mass. Reduce it any further and there would be nothing to look at.
The leaves are cut from flat sheet with a soft point at each end, brushed to a matte finish so they hold light gently rather than flashing. They sit on the pin one above the other, overlapping very slightly, which creates a thin shadow line between them — the only depth in the entire design. The pin is fine, straight and rounded at its tip.
Nothing is set into the design. There is no colour to match, nothing that can come loose, and the piece survives being dropped into a bag. For an everyday earring that is exactly the right set of properties.
Hair up or tucked back so the climb is visible. These suit plain modern clothing above all — linen, shirts, solid dresses — and they are discreet enough to wear to work every day without anyone commenting. A good choice as a second or third pair alongside something ornate.

The lightest piece in the collection. Two thin leaves and a wire, with nothing hanging and nothing to catch on a collar or scarf.
This piece is brass finished with a gold-tone plating rather than solid gold, which is what keeps the price where it is and the weight low enough for comfortable wear. Plating is a surface rather than a bulk property, so how long it lasts depends almost entirely on what it is exposed to. Perfume, hairspray, sweat, soap and chlorinated water all shorten its life; a dry cloth after wearing and a closed pouch between wearings extend it considerably.
Put this on after perfume, hairspray and foundation. Wipe with a dry soft cloth after wearing and use a dry soft brush around any stone settings. Store it flat in a pouch so the curve keeps its shape, and never use toothpaste, bleach or an ultrasonic cleaner.
