A slim vertical bar hangs from the lobe, with small birds perched facing outward along its length and coloured stone drops suspended between them. The whole earring is long and narrow — more a line than a shape. Available in Mint, Amethyst, Green and Baby Pink.
Almost every traditional earring is built around a circle or a crescent. A straight vertical bar is a modern device, and it does something useful that curves cannot: it draws the eye downward along the neck rather than outward across the face, which lengthens rather than widens. For round faces in particular that is a more flattering line.
The birds are small, flat and modelled in profile, attached to the bar so they appear to perch on it rather than being cut from it. Between and below them, faceted stone drops hang on short links in two shapes — a small round and a longer rectangle — which keeps the rhythm from becoming monotonous down the length. The bar itself is plain and narrow, so it reads as a branch rather than as a design element competing with the birds. The finish is a warm antique gold.
Amethyst is the deepest and the most striking against neutral clothing. Green is the traditional festive choice. Mint and Baby Pink are soft and daytime-appropriate. The colour applies to the hanging stone drops; the birds and bar stay gold throughout.
These suit high necklines and hair worn up, where their length has room to read. They are narrow enough not to interfere with a dupatta, and they work with both kurtas and plain western clothing. Avoid pairing with a long necklace — two vertical lines compete.
Daily wear, office, festive daytime functions and casual outings. Light enough to be a genuine everyday earring despite the length.
Light. The bar is narrow, the birds are flat and the stones are small, so there is very little mass despite the visual length. Nothing projects sideways to catch on a collar.
Put these on after perfume, hairspray and foundation — cosmetics shorten the life of plating faster than anything else. Wipe with a dry soft cloth after wearing and use a dry soft brush around the stone settings and through any fringe. Store them in a pouch rather than loose in a box, and never use toothpaste, bleach or an ultrasonic cleaner.
Type: Long bar drop earrings. Metal: Brass. Finish: Antique gold plating. Work: Perched bird motifs with faceted stone drops in two shapes. Closure: Post and butterfly back.
- Available colours: Mint, Amethyst, Green, Baby Pink
The fitting is a standard post and butterfly back for pierced ears, nothing specialist. The back is the part people lose, so it is worth checking it is seated firmly before you leave the house; a silicone stopper behind the metal back, which costs almost nothing, will stop a heavy earring drooping forward on a soft lobe.
A piece at this price is bought to be worn rather than kept. The sensible way to judge it is by how often it will leave the box, not by what it would fetch if it never did.
