Three long teardrops of smooth turquoise stone, hanging free from an openwork kundan frame. The stones are large, domed and completely unfaceted, so they read as solid blocks of colour rather than as sparkle.
Available in 9 colours: Pink, Purple, Black, Green, Blue, Baby Pink, Gold, Red and Peach. The colour refers to the three hanging teardrops. Black and Gold are the most graphic, Peach and Baby Pink the softest, and Green and Red the most traditional against the gold frame.
The contrast between the two halves is the whole design. Above, a busy frame of small clear kundan stones in scrolling gold. Below, three large areas of flat colour with no detail at all. Putting fine detail directly against plain mass like this is what makes the earring look considered rather than merely decorated.
Because the teardrops hang from individual links rather than being fixed to the frame, they swing separately and knock gently against each other as you move — which is how a large stone earring stays lively rather than static.
Each teardrop is a smooth domed cabochon, polished rather than cut. That is deliberate: a faceted stone of this size would be overwhelming, while a cabochon holds its colour deeply and catches a single soft highlight along its curve.
The upper section is openwork gold set with small clear kundan stones, shaped into a scrolling fan that widens toward the bottom so the three drops have room to hang. The openwork keeps the weight down and lets skin show through, which lightens the whole earring visually.
These are a colour statement, so build around them. A plain outfit in a neutral or a complementary shade is ideal — the stones should be the only strong colour near the face. They suit both silk and simple chiffon. Hair up or to one side, and skip the necklace; three hanging stones already fill the space below the ear.
Putting a large area of flat, undecorated colour directly against fine detail is a deliberate design choice rather than a simplification. The eye needs somewhere to rest; without that plain area, intricate stone work becomes noise. It is the same principle that makes a plain border work on a heavily woven saree. In this earring the kundan frame provides the detail and the three cabochons provide the rest, and removing either half would leave the design weaker. It is also why these suit a plain outfit better than a busy one.
Keep them in a zip lock pouch so the stones are not scratched by other jewellery. Put them on after perfume and hairspray. Wipe with a dry soft cloth and keep them away from water.
