A single jhumka is familiar. Three stacked one below the other is a different proposition entirely. These are built as a tapering tower — a round flower stud at the lobe, then three silver bells descending in decreasing size, each ringed with small bird motifs and closed with its own fine bead fringe.
Available in Silver — the oxidised antique finish, stoneless throughout.
The tiered construction gives them a movement no single jhumka can match. Each bell swings slightly independently of the others, so the earring ripples rather than sways as a block. In a room with any movement or music, that is very noticeable.
They are also long, at two and a half inches, which makes them a genuine statement piece. But because every tier is worked in openwork silver rather than solid metal, they stay far lighter than their size suggests.
Around the band of each tier runs a row of small birds in profile, repeated all the way around. It is a motif that turns up constantly in traditional Indian silver, and at this scale it reads as texture from a distance and resolves into detail up close. That is the quality that makes hand worked silver worth owning over a stamped equivalent.
Each of the three tiers carries its own fringe of tiny silver beads around its lower rim. Stacked, they create three separate lines of movement down the length of the earring, which is what makes these photograph so well and why they suit occasions where you are moving — a garba night above all.
Wear them with cotton and handloom rather than heavy silk; oxidised silver at this scale belongs with simpler fabrics. A plain solid kurta in black, indigo, mustard or white lets the tiers show clearly. Hair must be up or tied back — at this length, loose hair simply hides them. Skip the necklace entirely, or wear something very short and plain.
There is a reason jhumkas dominate festive dressing rather than studs. Movement catches the eye in a way that a static earring cannot, particularly under the warm, low lighting most functions are held in. A tiered design multiplies that effect: three separate bells and three separate fringes mean the earring is never still, and the light never lands in quite the same place twice. If you are dressing for an evening where there will be dancing, this is the kind of earring that reads from across the room.
Store them flat in a zip lock pouch so the three fringes cannot tangle with each other or with other jewellery. Put them on after perfume, wipe with a dry soft cloth, and keep them away from water.
