A large teardrop panel of deep teal enamel, hand painted with a white and pink lotus and its leaves, framed all round with small clear stones. Below hangs a small jhumka in the same enamel, edged with pearls and teal bead drops.
Available in 2 colours: Baby Pink and Teal Green. The colour refers to the enamel ground; the painted lotus and the stone frame stay the same.
Hand painted meenakari is a different proposition from stone set jewellery. The image is painted into the enamel, so you get a picture rather than a pattern — here a recognisable lotus with shaded petals and curling leaves, which is a level of detail stones simply cannot produce.
Because the enamel ground is a solid block of colour, the earring reads strongly from a distance and only resolves into a painted flower when you are close. That is an unusually rewarding quality in a piece at this price.
The lotus is among the oldest motifs in Indian art, standing for purity and new beginnings, which is why it appears so often in bridal and festive jewellery. Painted in white and soft pink against teal, it has plenty of contrast to stay legible at small scale.
A small enamelled bell hangs below, ringed with white pearls and finished with faceted teal bead drops. Keeping it small lets the painted panel above remain the focus.
Post fitting, moderate size, comfortable for a full function. The enamel is fired into the metal rather than painted on top, so it resists normal wear well.
Teal and gold is a strong, slightly unexpected pairing that works against cream, ivory, mustard and deep green. These suit both silk and cotton. Hair back so the painted panel is visible, and keep the necklace simple.
Almost all festive jewellery decorates with stones, which can only ever produce pattern — repetition, symmetry, colour blocks. Hand painted enamel can produce an image, and that is a genuinely different thing to wear. A lotus with shaded petals and curling leaves carries the character of a miniature painting rather than of a setting, and it means no two pairs are ever quite identical, since the brushwork varies. If everything in your jewellery box is stone set, a painted piece adds something that more stones never will.
Keep them in a zip lock pouch so the enamel is not scratched by other jewellery. Put them on after perfume, wipe with a dry soft cloth, and keep them away from water.
