A teardrop outlined in small stones at the lobe, a rectangular stone panel beneath it flanked by curved gold arms, and below that a deeply textured jhumka bell with a pearl fringe. Available in Baby Pink, Red, Black, Green, Yellow, Aqua, Mint, Blue and White.
The stone work here is used as a border rather than a fill — a single row of small stones running round the edge of the teardrop and the panel, with the centre left as plain coloured stone. That is a deliberately restrained way to use stones, and it keeps the design readable: the eye sees two clear shapes outlined in light rather than a mass of sparkle with no edges.
The teardrop and the rectangular panel both carry a large flat central stone surrounded by a close row of small ones. Between them, two curved gold arms spread outward like handles, widening the earring at its middle and giving it a shape rather than a straight stack. The bell below is textured with a deep hammered or granular surface rather than fluted, so it reads as matte against the bright stone work, and a close pearl fringe runs around its rim.
White and Baby Pink are the softest and best for daytime. Red and Green are traditional. Black is the most striking. Yellow sits closest to the gold. Aqua, Mint and Blue are the cool options. The colour applies to the two large central stones.
Hair up, neck bare. These are substantial and formal, suited to silk, tissue and brocade. The width at the middle means they read well from the front as well as the side, which not all long earrings do.
Weddings, receptions and major festivals.
These are among the larger pieces here and you will be aware of them. The bell is hollow and the panels are thin, which keeps the weight below what the size suggests, but they are an evening earring rather than an all-day one.
This piece is brass finished with a gold-tone plating rather than solid gold, which is what keeps the price where it is and the weight low enough for comfortable wear. Plating is a surface rather than a bulk property, so how long it lasts depends almost entirely on what it is exposed to. Perfume, hairspray, sweat, soap and chlorinated water all shorten its life; a dry cloth after wearing and a closed pouch between wearings extend it considerably. Treated sensibly, the colour holds for a long time.
Put these on after perfume, hairspray and foundation. Wipe with a dry soft cloth after wearing and use a dry soft brush around the stone settings and through any fringe or chain. Store them in a pouch rather than loose in a box, and never use toothpaste, bleach or an ultrasonic cleaner.
