The appeal of this pair is its clarity. A horizontal bar of carved antique silver spans the top, finished at each end with a small decorative cap, and directly below it hangs a single large stone cut into a shield shape with a pointed base. Three tiny stones sit above the bar as a crown. There is no fringe, no filigree and no dome, which makes it a noticeably different proposition from the jhumkas and chandbalis in this collection. The whole earring reads as two strong shapes stacked on each other, and at twenty-three grams for the pair it is also pleasantly light.
The silver bar is worked with fine vertical grooves along its length and capped at both ends with small turned finials, giving it the look of a crossbar rather than a plain strip.
