These ruby kundan chandbali earrings build outward from a single deep red stone: peacock wings in gold spread on either side of it, a silver crescent frames the whole, and a fringe of pearls and coloured beads finishes the lower edge.
The centre stone is a broad ruby-red oval, flat cut and set in a gold bezel. From it, two gold peacock wings sweep outward and slightly upward, their feathers picked out in fine lines, which gives the earring its width.
The crescent beneath is silver tone with a ridged gold band running through it, set with small green stones that pick up the traditional ruby-and-emerald pairing. Below hang pearls interspersed with faceted drops in green, maroon and blue, so the fringe carries several colours rather than one.
Ruby and emerald is the oldest colour pairing in Indian jewellery, and it matches almost every traditional outfit. Wear these with a red, maroon, green or gold silk saree, or with ivory for a softer contrast.
