A clear faceted teardrop sits at the lobe, and beneath it a large deep red square stone is set into a silver frame edged with beading. A pierced jhumka with a white pearl fringe finishes the drop.
Available in 10 colours: Baby Pink, Sea Green, Black, White, Ruby, Red White, Baby Pink Sea Green, Blue White, Green and Red Green. The colour refers to the large square stone; the clear crystal at the top stays the same.
The clear stone at the top is doing more work than it appears to. Because it is colourless and brilliantly cut, it separates the coloured square below from your skin tone, so the red reads more cleanly than it would if it sat directly at the lobe. It also adds a point of genuine sparkle to a design that is otherwise matte silver and soft stone.
Using three different materials — crystal, coloured stone and pearl — in one earring gives it more depth than a single stone type could, and each one handles light differently.
Large, faceted across the top, and set in a plain beaded frame. Square stones are less common than rounds or teardrops in Indian silver and give the earring a more structured, slightly architectural feel.
Pierced with a fine lattice and banded top and bottom, with a full pearl fringe. The openwork keeps the weight down and gives the bell some transparency as it moves.
Post fitting, narrow profile, moderate length. They hang close and are comfortable for a full evening.
Ruby and Red Green for traditional festive dressing, Black and White for something more graphic, Sea Green and Baby Pink for daytime. They suit cotton, handloom and simple silk alike. Hair back, plain neckline, silver bangles.
Using more than one kind of stone in a single earring is a small cost increase and a large improvement, because different stones handle light in genuinely different ways. A faceted crystal breaks light into sharp points. A smooth coloured cabochon absorbs it and glows. A pearl reflects it softly across a curved surface. Put all three in one piece and the earring changes character as you move, catching in one way and then another. A design using a single stone type throughout can only ever do one of those things, which is why it tends to look flatter in person than in a photograph.
Store them in a zip lock pouch so the crystal is not scratched and the fringe does not tangle. Put them on after perfume and hairspray, wipe with a dry soft cloth, and keep them away from water.
