A group of pointed petal shapes, graduated in size, sweeps upward and outward from the lobe along the line of the ear. Each petal is flat, brushed to a soft matte finish and set at a slightly different angle. There are no stones.
Instead of hanging, this one rises. An ear climber follows the curve of the ear upward, which draws the eye toward the face rather than down to the shoulder and makes a strong statement without any length at all. It is also practical in ways a drop is not: nothing swings, nothing catches on a collar, and it stays put while you move.
The petals graduate from small at the lobe to larger as the sweep rises, which is what gives the form its sense of growth. Each is cut from flat sheet with a sharp point and a rounded base, and set at a slightly different angle so they catch light independently rather than reflecting as one plane. The whole piece is shaped to follow a typical outer-ear curve so it rests against the ear rather than standing away from it.
Nothing is set into the design, so there is no colour to match and nothing to come loose. For a piece with this many separate elements, that keeps it robust.
Hair must be up with the ear exposed — the design lives on the ear and is invisible otherwise. It suits modern clothing particularly well and photographs very strongly in profile. Wear nothing else on the ear and keep the neck bare.
Parties, evenings, photo shoots and occasions where you want to be noticed.
Light and stable. The petals are thin flat sheet, and because the piece rests along the ear rather than hanging, the lobe carries almost nothing.
This piece is brass finished with a gold-tone plating rather than solid gold, which is what keeps the price where it is and the weight low enough for comfortable wear. Plating is a surface rather than a bulk property, so how long it lasts depends almost entirely on what it is exposed to. Perfume, hairspray, sweat, soap and chlorinated water all shorten its life; a dry cloth after wearing and a closed pouch between wearings extend it considerably. Treated sensibly, the colour holds for a long time.
Put these on after perfume, hairspray and foundation. Wipe with a dry soft cloth after wearing and use a dry soft brush around any stone settings and into textured areas. Store them in a pouch rather than loose in a box, and never use toothpaste, bleach or an ultrasonic cleaner.
