Gold-tone jhumkas built the kundan way, with flat stones sunk into shaped settings and coloured stones. A round stud carries it at the ear. They measure about 1 inch.
A jhumka is a bell, and the bell is the point of it. The dome is struck or cast hollow so the piece stays light, and the flare at the bottom is what lets it swing clear of the jaw instead of sitting flat against it.
A round top sits on the lobe and the bell hangs from its lower edge, so the two shapes read as one continuous drop rather than as two separate parts.
A ring of tiny pearls circles the centre stone. A pearl halo is the cheapest way to make a modest stone look set rather than stuck on, and it has been used that way for centuries.
Glass beads hang from the rim in a close fringe. The fringe exists for movement: it catches the eye when the wearer moves, where a solid edge only catches it when the light does.
It is a small earring by the standards of this kind of work, which is exactly what makes it wearable on an ordinary day rather than only at a wedding.
What you are holding is plated brass. That is what makes a kundan earring of this scale affordable, and it is also why it has real heft instead of feeling like foil.
Those wide flat rims around the stones are the kundan idiom. Kundan setting beds a flat stone in soft metal worked cold around its edge, and the shape it leaves behind is the most recognisable thing in Indian jewellery. Nothing here is gold foil, but the proportions are the ones that technique produced.
They are stocked in 10 shades: Sky Blue, White, Red, Lavender, Black, Multi Color, Purple, Green, Pink and Baby Pink. The swatches on this page show them; the shade you choose is confirmed on your enquiry before anything is charged.
They want the hair off the neck. Put them with a saree or a plain silk kurta, keep the neck bare or close to it, and let the earrings be the ornament.
What you are buying at this price is design rather than material, and that is a perfectly reasonable thing to buy. The shapes here come out of a jewellery tradition several centuries old and they work at a fraction of the weight and a tiny fraction of the cost of the versions in precious metal.
The care is simple and it does matter: no water, no perfume, no chemicals on the metal. Wipe them dry after each wearing and store them sealed rather than in open air. On oxidised work, never use a silver dip — a dip strips the blackening that the design depends on and the piece cannot be brought back.
Instead of an add-to-cart checkout you will find an enquiry button, and that is deliberate. These arrive in small quantities per colour, and the colour you want has to be confirmed before we charge for it. Send the enquiry with the shade you are after and we will reply with stock, price and timing. Keyura is prepaid only — there is no cash on delivery on any order, on any product.
