This is a kaan chain, the traditional answer to heavy bridal earrings. Two long strands of tiny beads and seed pearls arc upward from the jhumka to a hook that rests over the ear, so the weight is carried by the ear and the hair rather than by the piercing alone.
Available in 7 colours: Green, Purple, Red, Pink, Baby Pink, Sea Green and Baby Pink Sea Green. The colour refers to the small beads threaded along the strands and the accents on the jhumka. The pale options give the soft, powdery look shown; Red and Purple make the same design considerably more dramatic.
The strands are the design, not just the support. Two fine lines of pastel beads and pearls running from ear to hair draw a shape around the side of the face that no ordinary earring can. It is a look strongly associated with bridal photography for exactly that reason — it frames.
Practically, the benefit is real. A jhumka of this size worn on the lobe alone becomes uncomfortable within a couple of hours. Anchored by a kaan chain, the same earring is wearable through an entire wedding day.
At the base hangs a small kundan set jhumka with a gold bell and a dense fringe of white pearls around the rim. It is deliberately compact — the strands already occupy a lot of visual space, and a large bell would make the whole piece feel heavy at the bottom.
The jhumka hangs from a standard lobe piercing while the bead strands arc up and hook over the ear. Most people also pin the hook into the hair, which is traditional and adds security as well as taking further weight off the ear.
Bridal and heavy festive wear: a lehenga, a silk saree, a richly worked anarkali. Hair must be up or in a low bun, because the line from ear to hair is the entire point and loose hair hides it. Keep the necklace short, or wear none at all — this earring already works across the side of the face and neck.
Brides consistently underestimate how long they will be wearing their jewellery. A ceremony, photographs, a reception and the travel in between can easily run twelve hours, and a heavy earring that felt fine in the shop becomes genuinely painful by the evening. The kaan chain exists precisely because previous generations learned this. Anchoring the earring higher on the ear or in the hair spreads the load across a much larger area, so the piercing is not carrying everything. If you are choosing jewellery for a long day rather than a short event, that construction matters more than any other feature.
Store them flat in a zip lock pouch, on their own — bead strands tangle very easily against other jewellery. Put them on after perfume and hairspray, wipe with a dry soft cloth, and keep them away from water.
