This is a small piece that behaves like a big one. A slim oxidised silver cuff curves up along the ear, its outer edge lined with tiny silver beads in a scrolling pattern, a small flower sitting at the top. Below the lobe hangs a miniature domed jhumka finished with a fringe of white pearls.
Available in Silver — the oxidised antique finish, with white pearls at the fringe.
Most ear cuffs are either very plain or very heavy. This one manages detail without bulk. The beaded scrollwork along the curve gives it real ornament, but because the metal is slim the earring never feels like a lot on the ear. The result is something you can wear on an ordinary weekday and still feel put together.
The small jhumka at the bottom is what makes it feel finished. Without it the cuff would read as an incomplete curve; with it, the earring has a clear beginning and end, and something that moves.
Along the outer edge of the cuff runs a line of granulated silver beads, each one individually raised, curling into a spiral at the lower end. This is characteristic of traditional Indian silver work, and it is what separates a piece like this from a plain stamped cuff. Oxidising darkens the spaces between the beads so the texture stands out clearly rather than flattening into a shine.
The cuff rests over the outer ear while the jhumka hangs from a standard lobe piercing, so no second piercing is needed. Because the ear carries most of the weight, the earring stays comfortable even though it covers a good amount of the ear.
Cotton kurtas, handloom sarees, plain shirts. This is a daily wear piece more than a festive one, though it holds up perfectly well at a Navratri evening or a family function. Tie your hair back or tuck it behind the ear so the curve and the beadwork are visible — with hair down, most of the design disappears. Keep other jewellery in oxidised silver.
Ear cuffs put a lot of people off because the large ones look complicated to wear. This is the size to start with. It is small enough that putting it on takes a moment, light enough that you stop noticing it, and it needs only the lobe piercing you already have. If you find you like how a cuff frames the ear, larger styles become much easier to approach afterwards. If you do not, this is still a perfectly good everyday earring with a small jhumka, so nothing is wasted.
Keep the pair in a zip lock pouch so the pearl fringe does not catch. Put them on after perfume and hairspray. Wipe with a dry soft cloth and keep them away from water and damp storage.
