Two quarter-circle fans, one slightly larger than the other, overlap at an angle so that one partly covers the other. Both are brushed to a soft matte finish. There are no stones and no texture beyond the brushing.
The entire design is the overlap. Two fans side by side would read as a pair of unrelated shapes; laying one across the other creates a single composite outline with a visible seam running through it, and the small shadow along that seam is the only depth in the piece. It is minimalism that depends on a single well-judged decision rather than on ornament.
Both fans are cut from flat sheet with clean straight edges and a precise curved outer rim. The brushing runs in parallel lines across each fan, and crucially the two run in different directions, so the light catches them separately and the overlap stays visible even in flat lighting. The back is flat with a centred post, so the earring lies against the ear rather than tipping.
Nothing is set into the design, so there is no colour to match and nothing that can work loose. Combined with the flat profile, this makes them unusually robust for a statement-sized stud.
Modern clothing and plain colours. These are bold in outline but completely flat, so they work under a dupatta, with loose hair and with high necklines — situations where a hanging earring is a nuisance. Good with shirts, dresses and minimal kurtas.

This piece is brass finished with a gold-tone plating rather than solid gold, which is what keeps the price where it is and the weight low enough for comfortable wear. Plating is a surface rather than a bulk property, so how long it lasts depends almost entirely on what it is exposed to. Perfume, hairspray, sweat, soap and chlorinated water all shorten its life; a dry cloth after wearing and a closed pouch between wearings extend it considerably. Treated sensibly, the colour holds for a long time.
Put these on after perfume, hairspray and foundation. Wipe with a dry soft cloth after wearing and use a dry soft brush around any stone settings and into textured areas. Store them in a pouch rather than loose in a box, and never use toothpaste, bleach or an ultrasonic cleaner.
