A round stone sits at the lobe and below it hangs an open ring of gold wire, with two small stones mounted inside the circle — one on the rim, one set in from it. Available in Black Mint, Yellow Blue, Baby Pink Mint, Aqua Blue and Red Grey.
An empty ring is a very common earring shape and a slightly lazy one. Placing two small stones inside the circle — not at its centre, and not matching each other — gives the eye somewhere to go and turns an outline into a composition. Keeping them off-centre is the important part: a single stone in the middle would be symmetrical and inert.
The ring is fine round wire, polished smooth, open in appearance but closed as a circle. The two inner stones are small cabochons in plain bezels, one attached directly to the inner edge of the ring and the other held slightly clear of it on a short arm, so they sit at different depths. The stone at the lobe above is larger and acts as the anchor for the whole piece.
Monalisa is the trade name used across Indian fashion jewellery for a smooth, slightly translucent stone with a soft inner glow, somewhere between a cat's eye and an opal in appearance. It is cut as a cabochon rather than faceted, so it shows an even field of gentle colour instead of scattering sparkle. That makes it considerably easier to wear in daylight than a faceted stone, and kinder against most skin tones. It is a decorative stone used in costume and fashion jewellery and is not a certified natural gemstone.
Each option pairs two shades across the three stones. Black Mint and Red Grey are the strongest contrasts. Baby Pink Mint and Aqua Blue are soft and tonal. Yellow Blue is the warmest-to-coolest pairing of the five.
These are compact and quiet enough for daily wear but geometric enough to look considered. They work with shirts, dresses and plain kurtas, and with hair up or down since the silhouette is round rather than long. Any necklace works.
Parties, office, daily wear and casual outings.
Light. Fine wire and three small cabochons weigh very little, and the ring hangs close to the lobe without swinging far.
This piece is brass finished with a gold-tone plating rather than solid gold, which is what keeps the price where it is and the weight low enough for comfortable wear. Plating is a surface rather than a bulk property, so how long it lasts depends almost entirely on what it is exposed to. Perfume, hairspray, sweat, soap and chlorinated water all shorten its life; a dry cloth after wearing and a closed pouch between wearings extend it considerably.
Put these on after perfume, hairspray and foundation. Wipe with a dry soft cloth after wearing and use a dry soft brush around the stone settings. Store them in a pouch rather than loose in a box, and never use toothpaste, bleach or an ultrasonic cleaner.
