Two flowers, each with distinctly separated petals cut clear of one another, sit on a fine climbing pin. They carry no stones and no enamel.
The difference between this and the tighter rosette pins is simply space. Here each petal is cut clear of its neighbours, leaving small gaps through which skin shows, and that negative space is what lets the flower read as a flower from a conversational distance rather than dissolving into a textured blob. On a motif this small, how much you leave out matters more than how much detail you put in.
Each flower has six or seven petals, slightly cupped and separated at their bases so light passes between them. The centre is a small raised boss. Both flowers are the same size and set so their petals point in slightly different directions, which stops the pair looking like one shape stamped twice. The pin is fine, straight and rounded at the tip.
The pin passes through your existing lobe piercing and then rises at an angle along the ear, so a single piercing produces the look of a climber. There is no cuff, no clip and no second fitting. Slide it through gently and let the upper end rest against the ear — the angle it settles at is what holds it. Nothing hangs below the lobe, so it cannot swing, tangle in hair or catch on a collar.
Hair up or tucked back. These sit comfortably between the very plain pins and the ornate ones — recognisable and pretty without demanding attention. They work with Indian and western clothing equally. Wear as a pair.
Daily wear, office, festivals and casual outings.
Very light, with nothing hanging. The petals are rounded at their tips so nothing catches in hair.
This piece is brass finished with a gold-tone plating rather than solid gold, which is what keeps the price where it is and the weight low enough for comfortable wear. Plating is a surface rather than a bulk property, so how long it lasts depends almost entirely on what it is exposed to. Perfume, hairspray, sweat, soap and chlorinated water all shorten its life; a dry cloth after wearing and a closed pouch between wearings extend it considerably.
Put these on after perfume, hairspray and foundation. Wipe with a dry soft cloth after wearing and use a dry soft brush over any textured surfaces. Store them flat in a pouch so the shape is kept, and never use toothpaste, bleach or an ultrasonic cleaner.
